INTER-Religious Council for Peace Tanzania (IRCPT)
yesterday signed memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between religious
institutions on cooperation to strengthen peace, understanding and tranquility
for Development and People’s Prosperity.
Speaking on behalf of the Muslim Council of Tanzania
(BAKWATA), at the official launch of the National Council of Religious Leaders,
Sheikh Amir Kundecha said the aim of the MoU was to consolidate peace in the
country through discussion and consultations.
He said as result IRCPT strengthen the idea of
cooperation among the people of different faiths in social, economic and
political, further religious leaders
have agreed to strengthen good relations and encourage fellows to respect value
and protect human life, to be tolerant and avoid being the source of
misunderstandings, chaos and war.
“We as religious leaders are eager to
support all efforts being undertaken to consolidate peace inside and outside
the country for the people’s development, we leaders of religious institutions
with national registration accede and agree to officially register and lead
institutions to be called: Inter Religious Council for Peace Tanzania” he
said.
IRCPT secretary General Rev Canon Thomas Khoda said
the interfaith dialogue was opportunity, space in which people can meet up,
share concerns, hear each other’s points of view and acknowledges their shared
values, also said IRCP strives to strengthen religious respect and tolerance
through collaboration and constructive dialogues.
“It is inclusive form bringing
together religious communities through their religious leaders and institutions”
Germany Deputy Ambassador John Reyels commended efforts
made by Tanzania to sustain voice dialogue among the religious leaders.
He said Tanzania has a diversity culture and
religious believes, therefore it was right for them to establish platform of
dialoging. “On behalf of the Germany Government,
I’m here to learn how you coordinate interfaith dialogue to eliminate hatred
among the people. We are still learning,” he said
He highlighted the need to sustain the religious
interfaith dialogue to harmonize peace and strengthen unity among the people. According
to the deputy ambassadors, he was astonished on the way issues were solved adding
that it was a lesson for him.
Expressing government concern, the Legal Officer in
the Ministry for home affairs, Berious Nyasebwa said the government recognizes
the contribution made by the religious leaders. He said that it was the time
for them to form codes of conduct that among others will help to harmonize
peace and control quarrels.
“IRCP is like a bridge between the
government and religious leaders. Therefore you are taken to task to be abide
by laws,” he said
